Shipping

Fragrance is classified as dangerous goods — UN1266, flammable liquid — because it is mostly alcohol. That single fact determines almost everything about how we ship, so it is worth explaining rather than hiding in a policy page.

Ground only

Flammable liquids cannot travel as ordinary air cargo. Shipping fragrance by air requires dangerous goods declarations, certified packaging, and trained shippers, and the consolidated services most small retailers use exclude it outright.

So everything we send moves by ground. That is slower than you may be used to, and it is not a choice we can opt out of by paying more.

Where we ship

We ship across Canada and into the United States, by ground in both cases.

United States orders cross a border, which adds two things worth knowing before you order. Customs clearance adds time that is not in our hands, and any duties, brokerage or state taxes are calculated at checkout and are yours rather than ours. Nothing is collected at the door that you have not already seen.

We do not ship anywhere else. Overseas delivery would mean air freight, and for this category that is either prohibited on the services available to us or requires a specialist dangerous goods forwarder costing more than the decant. We would rather say no than quietly ship something that should not be in the aircraft.

How long it takes

Orders are packed within one to two business days. Ground transit is typically two to four business days within the Prairies, four to six to Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, and six to eight to Atlantic Canada. The territories take longer.

United States orders run longer again — usually a week to two weeks depending on how far the parcel travels and how quickly it clears customs. Treat any US estimate as looser than a domestic one.

Winter affects this more than anything else. Prairie storms close highways, and when they do, ground freight stops rather than reroutes. If you need something for a specific date in January, order well ahead.

How it is packed

Decants ship in rigid boxes with the atomizer bagged and cushioned — not in padded envelopes. Glass in a mailer does not reliably survive a parcel sorter, and limited quantity rules for flammable liquids require rigid outer packaging regardless.

Everything is packed to handle a cold parcel network. Fragrance does not freeze at Canadian temperatures, though some formulations turn temporarily cloudy in deep cold and clear again as they warm. That is harmless — we cover it in more detail in how to store decants.

Shipping cost

Rates are calculated at checkout. Because ground parcel pricing has a floor regardless of weight, a single 5ml decant costs nearly as much to ship as four do — which is why ordering several at once is substantially better value, and why we set a free shipping threshold rather than pretending postage is cheap.

If something goes wrong

If a parcel arrives damaged or leaking, take a photo before unpacking further and get in touch. If tracking stops moving for more than a few days, tell us and we will chase it — ground freight occasionally sits at a terminal without updating, particularly in winter.
